Meet our Cottonwood Heights team
Jamee Dobson
LCSW | Clinic Supervsior
I have been a social worker for over 26 years and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2011. I earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice, along with a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. My education and professional experience have allowed me to work with individuals and families across a wide range of life circumstances, deepening my understanding of human behavior, resilience, and the power of meaningful support.
I have wanted to be a therapist since grade school, driven by a genuine desire to help others grow, heal, and become the best version of themselves. Throughout my career, I have been inspired by witnessing people find strength during difficult seasons and create positive change, even when life feels overwhelming or uncertain.
I am passionate about empowering individuals, couples, and families to recognize their inherent worth and capacity for growth. I believe there is always hope, and that our life circumstances do not define who we are or who we can become. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and client-centered, with an emphasis on helping clients feel understood, supported, and capable of moving forward.
In my clinical work, I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I tailor these approaches to meet each client’s unique needs, strengths, and goals. I work with teens, adults, and couples navigating life transitions, emotional challenges, relationship concerns, and personal growth. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, build practical coping skills, and move toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.

By defining our own meaning within our lives, we can understand what it means for us to think, feel, and act like our authentic selves. I am passionate about understanding the needs, values, and unique experiences of every single person I work with. I want to help empower you to be your own agent of change as I support you in working through the challenges that you face. I want to give you the time to process your feelings and truly understand them to gain insight within a safe space that is grounded in affirmation, acceptance, and is dynamically tailored to your unique needs.
To tailor my approach to your unique needs, I utilize an integrative approach that combines a variety of therapeutic approaches that focus on helping to understand the complex aspects of your worldview and experiences. Some of the main approaches I use include existential-humanistic, narrative, mindfulness-based, cognitive behavioral therapy, and many others. I am passionate about diversity and strive to help support clients facing a wide variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, burn-out, crisis of faith, identity confusion, and trauma. Some of my specialty areas include: LGBTQIA+ challenges, Autism, ADHD, and trauma work. Some areas I am continuing to seek training and deeper understanding, include Internal Family Systems (parts work), Somatic work, and brain-spotting. I am also certified by the State of Utah to provide letters of referral for the hormonal treatment of transgender youth.
I am driven by my passion in supporting and attending to the needs of others (well at least that is what my four-year-old husky ‘dog nephew’ and two-year-old ‘human niece’ say about me). I am Transfemme demisexual person who is also neurodivergent (ASD and ADHD), so I have some personal understanding of some of the unique challenges that both the LGBTQIA+ community and the neurodivergent community experience. I have had my own mental health challenges that I spent years working through in therapy, so I hope to utilize my own experiences and my training as a counselor as the foundation to meet you wherever you are at in your mental health journey and help you with what you decide that you need to heal and grow.
When I am not practicing therapy, you can find me reading (so much reading), writing, playing video games, spending time with my family, seeing my own therapist, and challenging myself to expand my comfort zone and learn new things (most recently learning to ride a motorcycle).

Life is full of twists and turns, and at times those challenges can feel overwhelming or isolating. You don’t have to face them alone. Choosing to begin therapy is a courageous and meaningful step—one that reflects strength, self-awareness, and hope for change. I am honored to walk alongside you on this journey and to offer a supportive space where you feel safe, understood, and encouraged. Together, we will build a therapeutic partnership grounded in trust, compassion, and a clear focus on what matters most to you and your goals.
As a mother of three children and having adopted six additional children from foster care, I have experienced firsthand the complexities, joys, and challenges of raising children in many different circumstances. This personal experience deeply informs my work as a therapist and has shaped my passion for supporting children and families. For over nine years, I have specialized in child therapy and in working closely with parents, helping them develop effective tools, confidence, and understanding as they navigate parenting, attachment, behavior concerns, and family transitions. I understand that every family is unique, and I strive to meet each child and parent where they are with empathy and respect.
In addition to my work with children and parents, I also support teenagers and adults who are navigating emotional challenges, life transitions, and personal growth. Whether you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain, or simply seeking greater clarity and balance, my goal is to ensure that every individual I work with feels heard, validated, and empowered in their own healing process.
I draw from several evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. These approaches allow us to explore unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen coping skills, and build motivation for meaningful change. I tailor therapy to your specific needs, strengths, and experiences, creating a personalized and collaborative approach that supports lasting growth. My commitment is to provide compassionate, thoughtful care within a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself.
Your mental health matters, and you deserve support as you work toward the life you envision. I believe growth happens one step at a time, and I am here to help you move forward with confidence, resilience, and hope.

Together, we will gently uncover the deeper issues contributing to your distress and create a personalized plan that aligns with your values, strengths, and mental health goals.
My therapeutic approach is thoughtful and individualized, shaped by your unique needs, preferences, and life experiences. I work with individuals and couples, drawing from a range of effective, evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Behavioral Therapy (BT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Attachment-Based Therapy. In our sessions, you will find a compassionate, resourceful, and dedicated partner who supports and empowers you to take an active role in your healing process. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey, and my goal is to help you build self-trust, confidence, and independence so you can navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and resilience. I strive to create a space where growth feels possible and where you feel encouraged to move at a pace that feels right for you.

With many years of life experience, I believe strongly in the human capacity to heal, grow, and change. Sometimes, it can be incredibly helpful to have someone outside of your personal circle to talk to—someone who is fully present, truly listens, and offers thoughtful, unbiased perspectives. Life’s challenges, such as concerns related to body image, stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, or overwhelming emotions, can feel isolating when carried alone. My priority is to create a supportive, compassionate environment where you feel heard, validated, and understood, and where you are encouraged to take meaningful steps toward positive and lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
With years of clinical experience, I have developed a strong expertise in working with teenagers and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and related mental health concerns. I also support individuals facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including life transitions, self-esteem concerns, relationship stress, and patterns that may be keeping them stuck. I believe that every person’s story is unique, and my approach is flexible and collaborative, allowing therapy to be tailored to your specific needs, goals, and lived experiences.
I utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and other supportive modalities to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through this work, we focus on developing practical coping strategies, increasing emotional awareness, and building skills that support resilience and long-term well-being. My goal is not only to help alleviate symptoms, but also to support deeper insight, self-compassion, and personal growth.
In our work together, you will find a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can express yourself openly, explore difficult emotions, and process experiences that may feel confusing or overwhelming. Whether you are seeking relief from intense emotions, clarity during a challenging season of life, or a deeper understanding of yourself and your patterns, I will meet you where you are and walk alongside you with empathy and care as we explore the path toward healing and growth.
My ultimate goal is to help you not only navigate and overcome the struggles you are facing, but also to reconnect with your strengths, build confidence and resilience, and move closer to the life, values, and aspirations that matter most to you. You don’t have to face life’s difficulties alone. Together, we can work toward healing, meaningful change, and a brighter, more hopeful future.

Nobody is broken—but we all struggle at times. Life can bring unexpected challenges, painful experiences, and moments where we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. Wherever you find yourself on your life’s journey right now is not a failure or a setback—it is simply a starting point. I believe that meaningful change begins with acceptance, curiosity, and compassion for where you are today. From there, growth becomes possible.
In my work as a therapist, I utilize approaches such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals move through emotional pain, unhelpful patterns, and internal barriers that keep them feeling stuck. These approaches support clients in processing distressing experiences while also reconnecting with their values, strengths, and sense of purpose. Together, we focus on helping life feel richer, more meaningful, and more aligned with who you want to be—rather than driven by fear, distress, or discouragement.
Through my own life experiences, I came to realize that becoming a therapist was exactly what I was meant to do. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Honolulu, where I deepened my understanding of human behavior, healing, and resilience. My training and personal journey have shaped my belief that people are capable of profound growth when given the right support, tools, and space to explore their experiences.
I specialize in helping clients create a more meaningful and values-driven life through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while also addressing and processing heavier psychological obstacles through Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Our work together is focused on gently moving through the challenges that may be holding you back—from painful memories and emotional wounds to self-doubt, avoidance, or feeling disconnected from yourself. The goal is not to eliminate all discomfort, but to help you move forward with greater clarity, flexibility, and confidence.
Everyone is on a journey in life, and at times that journey can feel discouraging—like no matter where you go or what you try, you can’t seem to move forward, or you keep getting pulled backward. Many people reach a point where they feel they have tried everything, yet nothing seems to work. If this resonates with you, you are not alone. I have felt this way myself, and I have worked with many others who have experienced the same frustration and exhaustion.
I invite you to join me in developing creative, practical, and compassionate strategies to help you move forward and thrive in your own unique journey. Together, we can explore what matters most to you, identify what has been getting in the way, and take meaningful steps toward living the life you want—one that feels more authentic, fulfilling, and grounded in purpose.

Yo hablo español. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals heal from abusive and unhealthy relationships. Whether you are currently in an abusive relationship or are working to recover after leaving one, my goal is to support you in overcoming the pain, confusion, and emotional wounds you may be carrying. Abuse can deeply affect how we see ourselves, our relationships, and our future. Therapy can be a space to reclaim your voice, rebuild your sense of self-worth, and reconnect with your inner strength as you move toward a safer, more empowered life.
I also work with individuals who feel as though they have lost everything due to divorce, betrayal, financial hardship, or major life disruptions. When your world turns upside down, it can feel devastating, overwhelming, and even frightening. You may be grieving not only what was lost, but also the future you once imagined. I provide a supportive space to process that grief, make sense of what has happened, and begin finding your footing again. Healing does not mean forgetting the past—it means learning how to move forward with clarity, resilience, and renewed hope.
ADHD and autism run in my family, and these experiences have shaped both my personal understanding and professional passion for neurodiversity. I have studied these areas extensively and enjoy helping clients better understand how their brains work. Rather than viewing ADHD or autism as something that needs to be “fixed,” I focus on helping you recognize your unique strengths, challenges, and abilities. Together, we can explore practical strategies for daily life, improve self-compassion, and even learn how to make peace with—and appreciate—your brain. And yes, we can absolutely make this process engaging and even fun.
I believe that being deeply listened to and truly understood is one of life’s most profound gifts. As a therapist, my goal is to offer that gift to you by creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and valued without judgment. Your challenges, experiences, and dreams are as unique as your fingerprints, and therapy should reflect that individuality. I will work collaboratively with you to clarify what you most want from therapy and to shape our work together in a way that feels meaningful and supportive to you.
I offer evening appointments to better accommodate busy schedules and life responsibilities. Wherever you are on your journey, you do not have to face it alone. I would be honored to walk alongside you as you heal, grow, and begin writing the next chapter of your life.
